Frank Mooney, or Yan Gowan (Haida name) is a Haida Master Carver of the Eagle Clan from Hydaburg, Alaska. Although his work is found in a range of mediums, Frank is best known for his brilliance in carved authentic silver work as well as original jewelry designs. Melding his strong commitment to the traditions of the Haida culture, while opening another dimension to his own creativity, Frank’s work is characteristic of his ability to create flow, movement and a connection to the past and present. His jewelry is sought by collectors as well as Native Alaskans throughout the state. As a teacher to aspiring young Native artists, he hopes his genuine enthusiasm encourages Alaskan youth to embrace their heritage in keeping the link to their ancestors alive.
